A Season of Growth: My Experiences at Training Camp

This season has been a tremendous step forward in my development as a student-athlete. I had the privilege of attending training camps with both the Penticton Vees and the Cranbrook Bucks, two of Junior Hockey's premier organizations. The Vees, now part of the WHL, and the Bucks of the BCHL. Each experience pushed me to elevate my game, strengthened my confidence, and gave me valuable insight into the standards of junior hockey.

Penticton Vees Camp – Competing in a Championship Culture

Skating with the Penticton Vees was an incredible opportunity. Their camp challenged me to perform at a high pace in every drill and game situation, while emphasizing skill, consistency, and compete level. The professionalism and culture of excellence within the Vees organization left a lasting impression on me, and I came away motivated to continue developing the habits necessary to succeed at this level.

Cranbrook Bucks Camp – Earning Opportunity and Respect

The week following, I joined the Cranbrook Bucks for their main training camp. From the first skate, I focused on showcasing my strengths while adapting to the team’s systems and expectations. The feedback I received from the coaching staff was both constructive and encouraging, reinforcing my belief in my ability to compete at the junior level. It was an incredible experience.

The chance to integrate into the Bucks’ team environment, even for a short time, was invaluable. The pace, intensity, and camaraderie provided a clear picture of what it means to play junior hockey day in and day out. I was so excited to hit the road with the team and compete in my first BCHL exhibition, pre-season games. Our team was successful in both games and I even notched my first BCHL point in my first game! The nervousness and exhilaration was palpable, and to think I sprung free on a breakaway on my first shift! I left camp with a ton of confidence that I have what it takes to play junior hockey at the highest level, but also the appreciation for what I need to do to make the next step.

Looking Forward

Both of these camps were instrumental in my growth this season. I left with heightened confidence, a stronger understanding of the game at the junior level, and a clear path for where I need to focus my development.

As I continue my training and academics at Okanagan Hockey Academy, I am fully committed to refining my game on the ice, maintaining a high level of physical preparation, and holding myself to the standards required to earn future opportunities in junior hockey.
